    Dr. Richard J. Duffey

    Richard J. Duffey, MD, a cornea, refractive surgery and cataract specialist has been performing a wide array of cornea, refractive and lens-based surgeries for over 25 years and has published numerous articles and textbook chapters on the subject of cornea and lens surgery. Following his degree from the University of Notre Dame and medical training at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School, he did his residency in ophthalmology at the University of South Carolina and fellowship training under Richard Lindstrom at the University of Minnesota. He continues to serve as a refractive surgery editor for Ocular Surgery News and as a reviewer for multiple peer-review journals in the profession. He, along with David Leaming, MD, conducted their US Trends in Refractive Surgery Survey for both AAO and ASCRS from 1997 annually for nearly twenty years before concluding last year's AAO Subspecialty Day at the Academy Meeting. 

    Dr. Duffey is certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and is an active member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, Alabama Academy of Ophthalmology, American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, and the International Society of Refractive Surgery. He has worked overseas as a teaching eye surgeon with Orbis in multiple areas throughout the world including China, Sudan, Mongolia, Peru, the West Indies, India, and Syria. He and his bride of thirty-four years, Susan, have seven children and three grandchildren (so far).
